And other things that turn us on
Namaste! We hope this newsletter finds you all in good health and high spirits. It's been a while since our last update, and while we've been on a break, it doesn't seem like much has happened in the country. But fear not, we're back and ready to bring you the latest news and events (not really though). As always, remember to stay hydrated and take care of yourselves.
La Eta Hernus
Government
Roadblocks: So we’ve got a new president, Ram Chandra Paudel. You might not have heard too much about him as the president yet - that's because he hasn't really done much. He's been in the news twice: once when an overzealous intern photoshopped his presidential pic to the point where he looked like a ghost with no mole, and the second time because he actually managed to travel without causing a massive roadblock (unlike his predecessor). We're keeping our eyes peeled for any major accomplishments, but for now, we're just happy he's not causing any traffic jams!
Freedom of Speech: Three guys in Kathmandu were arrested for hurling chants against Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda). Pictures from the incident show the police literally shutting the protestor’s mouths and whisking them away to jail. Who said freedom of speech was free anyway?
Tech
Twitter clout: In a bizarre twist of social media shenanigans, former President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has decided to break tradition and keep her Twitter account after finishing her tenure. Instead of handing it over to her successor, she made a bold move and changed the account's name from PresidentofNP to BidhyaDBhandari. With 25k followers on the line, who can blame her for wanting to keep the good times rolling? It just goes to show that even world leaders aren't immune to the allure of social media clout!
Ride-sharing: European ride-hailing startup, Bolt, is expanding its service to Nepal's capital, Kathmandu, with a pilot program that began a couple weeks ago. The service is being launched with over 400 local drivers, and Bolt has announced that it won't charge any commissions to attract existing ride-hailing drivers to its platform for at least six months. Customers will also receive a 15% lower service fee than other competitors on the market, and the app will offer safety features such as an SOS button and in-app calling and messaging. Bolt may eventually expand into grocery and food delivery in Nepal as well.
Twitter has announced that they will be changing up their "for you" tab, and only recommending verified accounts starting April 15. In addition, they're taking away legacy verifications, which means everyone will have to cough up for Twitter blue if they want that coveted blue check mark. Musk daaju keeps getting more unhinged, yet we all keep scrolling through our timelines like nothing's changed. It couldn't possibly be addiction...right?
Fatafat
Stat: So Nepal has got itself a brand-spanking-new population count of 2,91,64,578 according to the 2078 census. And get this: there's 1,42,53,551 dudes and 1,49,11,027 ladies. That's right, folks romantically interested in ladies, there are a whopping 657,476 more women than men in Nepal. So, if you're one of those single people out there, you might wanna ask yourself: "What's wrong with me?" Go ahead and send that little factoid to all your friends who are interested in women, and watch them squirm as they realize they might just be the problem!
Quote: “If a person drinks, they can’t be an emaale!”
K P Oli, president of CPN-UML(Emaale), recently made a bold statement at a public event. He declared that if you drink alcohol, you can’t be Emaale. Sounds like Emaale promises bijuli and paani but not bijulipaani.

Three news briefs and a lie
Three of these news briefs are real, and one is faker than the “American” tag on an American chopsuey. Can you spot the odd one out? (Scroll all the way to the bottom for the answer).
Doctors in Rautahat were left with their jaws on the floor when they discovered an alcohol bottle in a patient's stomach. Further tests are ongoing but the doctors suspect that the patient may have had a 'butt chugging’ accident.
Nagararain municipality in Dhanusa has decided to beat the summer heat by distributing warm blankets to its residents! Sources say that the government's disagreements caused this delay, but it seems like they've found the perfect solution - to create a mini sauna under the blankets.
Farmers in Gulmi are giving birth control injections (Sangini suis) to goats (bokas) in an attempt to make them fatter. Jeez, we’re starting to sound like that one page with these translations, aren’t we? The injections are said to increase the goats' appetite and make them gain more weight.
The police have discovered that the missing donation box at Pashupatinath temple was actually stolen by the head priest's own nephew. Police have confirmed that the head priest is not a suspect, but they are investigating how the nephew got access to the box.
